The Three-Source Rule
Every room should have at least three light sources at different heights: an overhead fixture (on a dimmer), a table or floor lamp at seating height, and an accent light like a picture light or candle.
Color Temperature Matters
2700K for living spaces — warm and flattering. 3000K for kitchens and bathrooms — clean but not clinical. Never use anything above 3500K in a home. That’s office lighting.

If you do one thing, put dimmers on every switch. The ability to adjust the mood of a room with a slider is the single most impactful home upgrade you can make under $50.
